I have recently moved to the UK and it seems that I could get my hot water by using by gas boiler or by using the usual electric switch.
what is cheaper & better?
it really depends on the rates you are being charged for each of the service’s.
on one hand gas will be there even if you have a power outage, but even at that you still have electricity to engage the valve and the burners,to me you get about the same recovery time from either,so i guess i would make my choice from the local rates, hope this helps

Solar is almost free, once it’s installed. Gas is cheaper than electric.

Rennai makes systems that heats only the water u use, using electricity. This is a very cheap option in terms of running cost. If you use a hot water cylinder there is not much difference in cost between the two. If you have piped gas at your place gas would be the cheaper option. Gas units often heat only the water you require. If that is an option it will be your best option.

I’ve always liked gas for heating and cooking but the cost of natural gas on the east coast of the U.S is unreal.the reason I say that is, here its cheaper to be total electric, but it may be cheaper in the U.K to use gas.with electric you only have one bill but gas works better.
